Winter Shelter Update
WUU has now completed another week hosting our less fortunate guests through the Community of Faith Mission. We served an average of 20 guests a night. To do this, over 70 folks helped in the kitchen each night to provide a nourishing hot meal. Some of you brought in food, while others helped serve and clean up each evening.
Over 60 evening slots were filled with WUUers, friends, and family working with the shelter managers to help with the check-in process, as well as stay overnight, to ensure the guests had a safe and comfortable night. And then each morning, at 5 am, a group of early birds filling nearly 70 slots came in to ensure the guests had a sustaining breakfast before they left at 7 am, with the early birds then making sure the building was clean and ready for the next night. Finally, we had folks lending muscle on a number of occasions to break down and then set back up the sanctuary for both Church of God and our own Sunday service, as well as unloading and packing back up the shelter trailer as it arrived from the previous church and then made its way on to the following week’s church.
WUU has been involved with the COFM since it started in 2012, and with the support of all of you, Beloved Community, WUU’s Social Justice ministry will continue to support them. Again, a huge thank you to everyone who was involved, whether with food, time, or money donations WUUers, their friends, and families are the best!!!
