What is Qigong? - Part 1
Qigong (SHE GONG), an ancient Chinese meditation and exercise practice, is often confused with Tai Chi. However, the documented history of Qigong goes back 2500 years and there is archeological and historical evidence from 5000 years ago, far older than Tai Chi. The earliest practitioners were Shamans who, without the aid of any kind of modern medical equipment, were able to detect the complex system of channels through which the body’s natural energy flows. Using dance-like movements that mimicked the movements of animals and with breathing and meditation, they were able to improve their physical health and to unify the wellbeing of body, mind and spirit. Qigong is still practiced today and is becoming increasingly popular.
(The WUU Qigong class is held on Tuesdays at 1pm in room 108.)
