In October, the Earth Care Book Club will be discussing Radically Reframing Climate Change:  A Guide to Saving Ourselves, by Will Hackman.

Released in April, 2026, this brand new book is billed as “an inspirational guide to discussing and fighting climate change for Millenial and Gen Z voters that cuts through the usual myths and scare tactics to provide practical advice.”

Rather than giving endless statistics and scientific facts, this book promises to discuss the three main obstacles to solving climate change (polarization, paralysis, and ineffective messaging). Hackman, a millennial himself, sees the climate crisis as a humanity crisis, rather than a scientific or technological one, and he encourages us to change how we think and talk about it. His ultimate message is that we know how and what needs to be done, but now we need to enact change at personal, community, and federal levels.

Climate change is a topic that we have not yet explored in our monthly book club, despite the myriad of books written on the topic over the years. When I saw that the Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth (UUMFE) had selected this book for its online monthly discussion group, I thought that it might be a good one to introduce us to the topic. Not only can we discuss this book in our own group locally, but we’ll be able to join in the wider discussion among other UUs if we so desire.

As always, all are welcome, even if you haven’t had a chance to read (or finish) the book. We’d love your company. We hope to see you on October 25, after the service, in the Little Sanctuary.
