This month, the Earth Care Book Club is reading The Hidden Company That Trees Keep, by James B. Nardi. This wonderful book details all of the life that lives in, on, and around trees, from the root zones in the soil through the trunk up into the branches and out onto the leaves and flowers. There are many black and white drawings to illustrate the life forms being discussed.

Nardi is a research scientist in the School of Interactive Biology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and he’s a wonderful guide, showing us many amazing life forms that exist on and because of trees.

Because of the detail in this book, you may want to get it earlier rather than later so that you can dip into it in short chunks, again and again. The book is published by the Princeton University Press and will probably need to be ordered.
