Presidents’ Report May 2026

The 2026-27 WUU Board begins this month. Thank you to “retiring” members Phoebe Kent and Angela Surber for their wise and conscientious service. New Board members Beverly Peterson and Bill Geary will be joining Deborah Fabian, President; Sandy Stephan, Vice President; Dave Wilcox, Secretary; Helen Hansen, Asha McLaughlin, and Dan Moore.
Our first task will be to approve the budget at the May 21 meeting. The congregation raised 97.94% of our $420,000 annual giving goal, so we look forward to presenting a balanced budget at the June 14 Congregational meeting. Thank you to Camilla Buchanan, Deb Hill, and the Annual Giving team for a truly successful campaign.
WUU hosted the Tidewater Cluster on April 25. 150 attendees from area UU congregations gathered for a day of inspiration, fellowship, fun, and sharing. Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt gave the keynote, “Meeting the Moment.” That will definitely be our task in the coming year.
Thank you, Dave Wilcox and team, for a successful, safe, and motivating event. Next year the cluster will meet in Fredericksburg.
The upcoming year promises to be one of continued growth and excitement in our congregation. We are already seeing new families with children joining our services and Religious Education program at a wonderful rate. The addition of our Robin Jester Wootton as the director brings a new life and excitement to the program, and, of course, the presence of Rev. Jude also brings a level of excitement that is almost palpable during our gatherings.
Our many groups including Social Justice, Stewardship, Membership, Campus Improvement Team, Safety Committee, and Green Committee are active in our community and bringing numerous opportunities for participation.
We on the board look forward to continuing to serve this vibrant community as our congregation continues to be a necessary liberal religious voice in our community.
