Recycling Collection Paused

From James City County:

“James City County's curbside recycling service was terminated on September 30, 2025, due to the termination of the contract with the vendor, Tidewater Fiber Corp. (TFC), by the Virginia Peninsulas Public Service Authority (VPPSA). Residents are currently directed to use the county's convenience centers for drop-off recycling and are advised to hold their recycling containers until further notice, as their status and removal are unresolved. The county is actively seeking a new curbside provider.”

This means WUU, also, must pause our recycling collection. Please do not put any recyclables in the khaki-topped bins outside for Recycling. The CIT is looking into the possibility of our own recycling program for aluminum cans and broken down cardboard boxes to be deposited at the convenience center drop-off location on a weekly basis. Until that occurs, we ask for your patience as we seek to test the feasibility of our one system. Again, please do not use the khaki-covered recycling bins until further notice.

Any box recycling should be disposed of by first breaking all boxes down into flat planes of a size sufficient to fit vertically into the existing trash cans with a black top, to be disposed of as trash. Aluminum, glass, paper and other recyclables should be disposed of as trash.

Thanks, as we try and work out a possible alternate program for WUU, as the County determines its course of action.
