Monday Evening Yoga Before Meditation

Beginning on Monday, March 9--immediately prior to the weekly meditation--the Williamsburg Buddhist Sangha will offer 45 minutes of Gentle Yin/Restorative Yoga from 6:00 to 6:45 pm in the Little Sanctuary of WUU.

For generations meditators have either begun sittings with brief periods of yoga or they have interspersed periods of yoga and mediation during times of retreat. In that spirit, we're offering this gentle preparatory practice.

Yin/Restorative Yoga is especially suited to meditation practice and is a good complement to it. Yin mindfully combines slow and simple movement with relative stillness. This gentle practice calms the nervous system and helps focus the mind.

To participate, you will not need any prior yoga experience. We do encourage you to bring a yoga mat. If you don’t own a mat, we have some.  A pillow for sitting might be helpful but is not necessary. And though you won’t need any special clothing, something casual and comfortable is recommended.

Our yoga teacher will be Shomer Zwelling, one of the founding members of the Williamsburg Sangha and a longtime meditator. Shomer has been teaching yoga in the Williamsburg area since 2009.

All members of the WUU community are welcome.

Doors open at 5:45 pm.
