“Living An Authentic Life” - Annette Marquis, Guest Worship Leader

In this service, guest speaker Annette Marquis will explore what it means to live an authentic life. Through stories and reflection, she’ll consider the courage it takes to tell the truth about who we are, the burdens of secrecy, and the freedom that comes with living openly. Together, we’ll reflect on how authenticity can deepen our relationships, heal old wounds, and root us more fully in beloved community. This service invites each of us to step more bravely into our own truth.

Annette Marquis is a community builder, wanderer, and author. She recently retired as the Director of Operations for the Living Legacy Project, Inc., a non-profit organization that educates people about the enduring lessons of the American Civil Rights Movement. Previously, she served the Unitarian Universalist Association as LGBTQ and Multicultural Programs Director, Southeast Regional Lead, and District Executive for the Southeast District. Annette is the author of two memoirs, Living Into the Truth: A Daughter’s Journey of Discovery, and Resistance: A Memoir of Civil Disobedience in Maricopa County. You can find more of her writing at annettemarquis.com. Annette lives with her wife Wendy in Richmond, Virginia, where she is a member of First Unitarian Universalist Church of Richmond.
