November Message from the Minister

The country is going through a serious economic lurch with the cost of groceries going up, and SNAP benefits disappearing. Without significant changes at the national level, these hardships will only worsen. If you personally are in need, please do reach out. We can’t solve everything, but we may be able to help a bit with the day-to-day challenges. And if you are in a place of abundance, now is the time to seriously attend to the work our own Katrina is doing, in connecting our community with town food pantries, like FISH. She is collecting regularly and you can deposit more food near our red wagon during the week and especially on Sundays. I’m also working with the newly formed Interfaith Clergy Council on Immigrant Needs through Virginia Organizing as a rep from HART (Historic Area Religions Together). Of particular need for migrant communities right now are the larger sized baby diapers. Grove Center is collecting those diapers. If we gather them at WUU, I can drive them over each week. That will be a perennial need.

Services this month include an All Souls Day service of remembrance, a multigenerational service exploring the spiritual lessons found in optical illusions, our Transgender Day of Remembrance, music on St Caecilia Day, and seminary learnings from our own Natalie Miller-Moore.
