Thank You to Our Postcard Volunteers and Organizers

We are truly thankful—and full of admiration—for the more than 100 community members who came together to write and mail over 7,000 non-partisan postcards to Virginia voters for the November 2025 General Election. Each card carried not just words, but also a commitment to helping strengthen democracy and encouraging civic participation.

A special thank-you goes to Williamsburg Unitarian Universalists for their generous funding—covering postcards, labels, supplies, and even providing staff support.

We also give a big shout-out to the James City County Indivisibles, who hosted a fantastic one-day postcard-writing party: well attended, extremely organized, full of energy (and delicious cake!).

Our thanks also to sister/brother groups—League of Women Voters of the Williamsburg Area and NAACP-YJCW—for spreading the word and bringing more people into this work.

I’m proud to say that the postcards and the scripts we used are part of the Reclaim Our Vote (ROV) campaign of the Center for Common Ground. ROV is grassroots, primarily volunteer-run campaign that focuses on increasing BIPOC voter turnout through postcarding, texting, and phone banking. (BIPOC – acronym for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color)

The Center notes that “we empower infrequent voters. By contacting infrequent voters who are overlooked by political campaigns, we offer a bridge from non-voter to empowered voter.”

Postcards may seem simple, but they can make a real difference: a handwritten message reminds voters that their voices matter, and that their participation strengthens our democracy. This campaign has shown what ordinary people can do when we act with purpose and solidarity.
